Discussion:
Is Easynews Deleting Content Due To DMCA?

Easynews has always been an excellent resource to quickly find video files
for episodes of the latest popular tv shows, usually the day after the broadcast
but sometimes even within an hour but lately, it’s become much harder to find
these episodes or find files that aren’t corrupted.

A sort-by-date search for X tv show, will almost always turn up a 3-4 MB sample
size video for the latest episode but lately, either there is no video file available
for the full episode or it’s corrupted.

Is Easynews deleting (and/or corrupting) video content due to DMCA issues?

Now I can understand if Easynews is under legal pressure to do that but on the
other hand, if customers end up being forced to sign up for a NetFlix streaming
account and a cable tv package to see these tv shows, then there really isn’t
much reason for them to keep paying for an Easynews account…

If that’s the case, then I dunno what if anything can done about it but I’d suggest
if this is due to DMCA issues, maybe Easynews can at least “drag their feet” a bit
when it comes to deleting content?

I see the same thing. Just last night I missed a show and was going to download it, found it in
alt.binaries.teevee went to download it and it said file not avilable, went back to the group
and it is not there now. I have had this happen to me alot in the last month or so, and it
always seems to be the same shows. I am also wondering if easynews is blocking/deleating shows.

Indeed, this didnt seem to be an issue until around maybe six months ago,
when this or that tv show episode suddenly stopped being available or the
files were corrupted (though the sample sized vids always seem to make
it thru).

Annoyingly, this appears to be less of a problem for European posters, as I tend
to see the same episode posted from the Netherlands or France or wherever,
either over-dubbed (and thus unwatchable) or with foreign subtitles (and almost
unwatchable).

Again, if Easynews is being forced to do this due to DMCA pressure then that’s
that, but Id say maybe they don’t need to be such Quickdraw McGraws about it?

People have been known to over sleep or get hung up doing chores around the
house and stuff, even Easynews administrators… wink wink nudge nudge, know
wut I mean?

Hello,

It would appear from your question that you are asking for assistance
finding and/or accessing copyrighted material. We realize this may not
be the case; however, we respect the rights of all copyright holders and
fully comply with the DMCA and err on the side of caution in these
situations. We will not be able to assist you with this issue. If you
need general assistance with the use of our services or if you have any
other questions, please open a new support ticket. We will no longer be
responding to this thread.

No, just wondering how all this DMCA stuff works?

I’m guessing that tv networks have their minions keeping an eye out and
if they find one of their shows being posted, they presumably send off
an email to Easynews about it?

I would guess there is some kinda legal window within which the offending
files have to be deleted, but administrators can’t reasonably be expected
to do it the very second they recieve the notice, right?

Surely it takes a bit of time to get around it it?

Here is a link to the Easynews explanation of their DMCA takedown
procedure.

https://www.easynews.com/copyright.html

On that page is a link to a sample takedown notice. There are
companies whose business is to monitor postings and submit DMCA
takedown requests.

Here is a link to one of those companies, MUSO, and their explanation
of the DMCA takedown process, from their perspective.

Compliance to DMCA requests is what keeps Usenet legal.

The only way to avoid DMCA take downs is to either download before the
DMCA request is processed, or sign up with multiple providers that are
not all Highwinds re-sellers. (there is no point in signing up with
multiple providers if they are all Highwinds... as I'm pretty sure that
once one of them receives a DMCA it will be gone quickly from all of
them)

I've got a Classic account with Easynews (mostly because of the web
interface, and being able to create NZBs of individual videos), an
Unlimited account with a European provider, and a block account with
another provider. Of the 3 only Easynews is Highwinds.

The DMCA is a US law which impacts any company with an operation in the
US. There are many examples of legitimate content being taken down by
bogus notices and other abuses. If it is interfering with your
downloading, you will just need to find a provider that is not under US
jurisdiction or in a country with similar laws.
