Which died Usenet or Easy News or both?

In years past the following groups were populated almost
daily. Now nothing gets posted for weeks at a time. I
haven't downloaded a song in a month or more. Either Usenet
is in it's death throes or Easy News is at fault for not
updating these groups. Which is it?

alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.1950s
alt.binaries.sounds.1950s.mp3

After 13 years membership I have little incentive to stick
around. If things don't improve, I'm outta here.

Usenet has definitely been dieing for some time now, as I
said in my post of 3rd April headed "Usenet Is Dieing".
Since then, the situation has definitely got worse.

usenet is not dead, it just changed. and easynews is not able to go with this change.
in case of DMCA and copyright violations easynews and other providers (must)remove files. therefore many users go another way, they use crypted headers in new groups and protect the uploads with passwords. thats one case, that many files cant be unrared, and other groups stay empty.
the other case are the bogus files from several idiots, that contain virusses. many posters avoid the affected groups and change the groups too. but these files can be sorted out by filtering in global search.
the volume of usenet is still growing. much content is spam and virusses, but the bigger part of content is crypted and passworded.
many users are in usenetforums, where the passwords for the crypted files can be recieved. most of these forums are not public. these people have no problem to get their stuff from easynews as well, because these files exist.

Chances are good that the same content is being posted as before but
it is in another group. I've seen that happen more than once.
Sometimes there will be a notice posted in the newgroup but more often
than not there is no notice posted in the newsgroup. Probably to make
sure they leave behind the bad posters (spammers.)

Those are just older newsgroups that don't receive updates as much as
they used to. New newsgroup names are requested all the time, and will
often take the place of older ones - especially in the case of spam
becoming more popular.

If you've really been around for 13 years, then you know the
prediction of the end of Usenet began in 1983 ;-)

Henrietta and The Empire of Meow versus The Ambulance Chasers of Harvard

Those were gentler times...

Still, that was just Usenet nerds doing it to each other, not the organized
malware flooding we see today!
